TW11 Tour Pro Tips

Many players have been anxious to try out the new TourPro swing mode in TW11, but are finding it difficult to gain consistency with the new swing. I thought I’d offer up some tips on what’s worked for me, as well as some hints on how to correct common problems. In this article, we’ll discuss the three major parts of your TourPro swing: ball position, swing path, and wrist action. Continue Reading »

Calculating Yardages for Partial-Percentage Lies

One question I often get, both on the EA Forums and here, is how to accurately calculate yardages when hitting out of the deep rough. Partial lies of 90% and above are most likely not going to give you much trouble, but it’s the 80% lies and below that are liable to ruin your round. Luckily, there’s an easy solution for getting yourself out of the deep stuff. All we need is a little bit of simple algebra. Don’t worry, it’s not as scary as it sounds. Continue Reading »

Two Strategies for Putting without a Meter

The new Pro Tournaments available online in this year’s edition of the game have introduced some new hardcore settings to which some players (including myself) are becoming addicted. I’m currently in the middle of a tournament series hosted by bjlevine in which players must incorporate realistic settings like no putt meter, and I’ve quickly had to learn a lot about putting without a meter to even be competitive with some of the crazy scores that players are already throwing down! In this article, I’d like to discuss two strategies I’ve come up with for putting without a meter. Continue Reading »

Quick Tip for Getting More Accurate Results with Precision Putting

This is a super quick tip that’s easy to implement, but you may find it saving you strokes! When you are lining up your putt, make sure you move your distance marker to the actual percentage point you are attempting to hit. In other words, say you line up for a 25% putt, but after putt preview, you notice you have to add a few power percentage points to make it up the hill. Well, instead of planning to just hit your power meter at a little above the 25% mark, actually move your distance marker up to your desired percentage. Why? Continue Reading »

Driving the Ball 100% in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2010

One of the differences between this year’s game and the last becomes glaringly obvious when you tee up for the first time. If you’re using the MotionPlus attachment, it’s no longer easy to hit full power tee shots; and what’s this, I can actually slice the ball now!?!? (I thought video games were a way of escaping real life…oh well) One of our first snap reactions to seeing a drive come off at something like an 88% is to, you’ve guessed it, swing harder. But to just swing your brains out is to miss the point of the new MotionPlus. Even the Wii remote by itself detected our swing force in TW09. The new sensors require finesse and gentle coaxing, and maybe even a pep talk or two. Understanding how the MotionPlus works and how it relates to your swing is key to getting a full power shot going.  Continue Reading »

Using Manual Draw and Fade

Attempting to use manual draw and fade can be a frustrating experience, especially when you are used to the ease of simply dragging your target circle around in the standard swing mode. While using manual draw and fade can add a new challenge to your game, the system itself can be a bit finicky and it takes some effort to get used to. In this short article, I just want to outline some simple steps for players to follow to, at the very least, get their manual draw and fade working.  Continue Reading »

Gaining Consistency in Your Approach Shots

Consistency on your approach shots is extremely important, because the result determines how and from where you’ll be putting. While hitting into the green with medium to short irons will usually allow you to find some club that will work at 110%, those partial-power full shots with your wedge are what really require a certain amount of finesse. In this short article we’re going to discuss how to define power zones for your wedge and also how to gain consistency when actually swinging your Wii remote. Continue Reading »

Driving the Ball at 110% Power

Your drive off the tee will probably be one of the easier shots you’ll experience on any given hole, mainly because it’s very forgiving and you usually will have a huge target at which to aim, that being the fairway. But players may still find some difficulty in achieving a maxed-out, 110% swing, or even a full swing at 100%. The purpose of this article is to give you some tips on how to add overall consistency to your power levels while driving, and how to achieve a 110% power level on command. Continue Reading »
