About

Hi, and welcome to Tiger Woods PGA Tour! My name is NoChinDeluxe, and this is my site. There are a number of reasons I decided to create this site. For starters, there are alot of players out there looking for advice on how to get better and improve their games. I also noticed that it can sometimes be difficult to search forums for specific answers to simple questions. Add on the fact that forum posters can often be vague, sarcastic, or altogether unhelpful, and you’ve got one frustrating experience! That’s not to say there aren’t helpful players out there. Many of the top players spend a ton of time both on the EA forums and on the boards at the WiiGA Tour trying to help newer players achieve their goals. I’m hoping this site will represent their efforts.

It’s been over a year now (wow!), and there’s been a very positive response to this site by the TW community. Many players have stopped by to comment on articles, give advice, ask questions, and send me emails, and it’s been great interacting with everybody. I’ve got a nice little collection of articles up for your perusal, and I hope that you will continually check back to read helpful articles as they are written and posted by some of the game’s very best. You’ll see at the top of the page that content is separated into two main categories, Strategy and Technique. Within those pages you’ll find information on the basics as well as advanced play.

On the left side of the page, you’ll see many methods for browsing content. You can do a traditional search, or you can browse individual pages. As articles are written, more tags will be added so you can browse by selecting a specific topic. At the very bottom, you can browse the archives by month.

One more thing. I should let you know that I play TW11 on the Wii, and while I give specific tips on how to swing the Wii remote in some articles, the concepts on hitting certain types of shots are applicable to all platforms.

And that’s pretty much it! Again, please check back as new content is added, and feel free to make suggestions or ask a question on the FAQ page. Thanks for coming, and enjoy your time at Tiger Woods PGA Tour.

I’m certainly glad to see this site. It seems very sad that users have to figure out for themselves how to play the game. The manual that comes with the game is all but useless. While I don’t expect them to teach me how to golf, I don’t think some basic pointers wouldn’t have hurt. Even a glossary would have helped. After reading some articles on putting on the EA forums I lost 11 strokes per round. So thanks to all of you guys who take the time to help out.

Hi, where in the game do I load in the gamer face which I uploaded to EA sports’s website?

  4. NoChinDeluxeon 21 Mar 2009 at 2:54 pm link comment

This feature is not available in the Wii version of the game, which is what I assume you’re using since you also posted in the Wii forum. Photo Gameface is for Xbox360 users.

Congratulations. What a great site this is! I found it via a link on the EA Forums and I’m glad I did. I haven’t explored the entire site yet, but the fact that it even exists is great. And I must commend you on how clean looking and easy to navigate it is. Great job and I know I’ll be bookmarking it. Thanks for all your efforts.

Hey wurmburner, thanks so much for visiting. My goal going into this project was to make this site insanely easy to search for content, so I’m glad it’s working the way it should. I appreciate the kind comments and thanks for saying hi.

This is hands down the best Wii Tiger Golf site! The articles are so detailed and helpful. While they are overwhelming at first, I find myself coming back to re-read them after I gain more experience. My brother-in-law always had a winning record over me in online play – it was torture. Since I found your site the tables have turned. Your putting tips on finding the proper % to use are the best, and thanks for the printable putting chart. I look forward to your TW ’10 articles.

PappaG! I don’t know what to say, brother! Thanks so much for the kind words. So glad the articles are helping. I’ve debated with myself over whether the articles are a little TOO in depth, but I figured players could re-read them as they learned more. Sounds as if that method is working for you. Great to hear from you and thanks for visiting.

How can I get access to the Highland Challenge in ’09 (Wii version) I’m a newbie and just finished Atlantic Crossing. The Highlands show up on the calendar, and days 1-3 have a check mark, but Sunday doesn’t. The braclet is all “Woods” but it’s just a display screen. I have tried all the buttons on the calendar and nothing happened. Any help would be aprreciated.

Did you perhaps not make the cut for the fourth day? What place did you finish at the end of day two?

  11. Dennison 04 May 2009 at 2:56 pm link comment

But that’s just it, I HAVEN’T played yet. Is it a bug? i was clicking on day 1, and nothing happened. I had just finished in the Atlantic Crossing..knocked off a couple of Tiger Challenges, and then tried to get in this event.

I’ll check into this. I’m not sure what the issue is. If three of the four days are acting like you’ve already played, then this could be a bug. You might want to throw this out to the EA Forums, and see what they have to say. I personally haven’t experienced many bugs in the game, so there are people out there who will probably know how to fix this stuff more than I will.

Hello NCD – this really is a wonderful site and resource to the new player.

As I am new to the game I have a question – am I wrong that there’s a new Gary Player course (South Africa)? If there is how we get access to it?

    Many thanks,

    FDV

  14. NoChinDeluxeon 20 Sep 2009 at 11:10 am link comment

You can play at the Gary Player Country Club, which is located in Sun City, South Africa. You’ll unlock this course by playing through the Tournament Challenge in career mode.

Just found this site today.. Thanks for hosting it. Your advice has been the reason I have been able to improve my game so much. I now use the loft in most shots to the green and don’t have to deal with 60-80ft putts anymore.

Awesome! Glad to hear it has helped your game. Feel free to let me know if you want any special topic covered.

Hi NoChinDeluxe. I’m fairly new to TW09 and stumbled upon your site when trying to find info on the game as the instructions that come with the game are next to useless. I must congratulate you on your site it’s a great resource for people like me who are just getting into it, I’ve really benefitted from what I’ve read so far. EA should sponsor you as you’re doing their job for them. The only question I have so far is how do you max out on the putting skills? I can only get 3% and can’t see a way of gaining more even with more sponsorships (I only have 7)

Keep up the good work on a great site

Hey David, thanks for the kind words. You’ll earn putting stats the same way you earn your other stats, by making good shots. You’ll notice when you’re playing in career mode that on some shots, one or more of the little orange stat icons may flash on your screen. That means that you are earning a stat point for that shot. You’ll earn stats like power for hitting the ball a certain distance, accuracy for staying in the fairway, recovery for making a good shot from the bunker onto the green, etc. To get putting stats you just need to make good putts. You’ll get more putting stats if you make only one putt rather than missing and having to putt a few more times. You may want to play through the Tournament Challenge mode. Some of the challenges are putting only, and you’ll earn some putting stats for completing those. Hope that helps!

Hi NoChinDeluxe, Thanks for that. I’m already at 100% it’s the bonus extra 10% I’m trying to find, I have 3% but can’t find a way to get to 110%

  20. NoChinDeluxeon 03 Nov 2009 at 9:46 am link comment

Oh, I’m sorry, I misunderstood you. Getting the stat bonuses all has to do with the gear your character wears. To learn how to get the maximum bonuses available, see glenmcd2′s article “How to Get Max Stats in 2010.” Here’s the link: http://tigerwoodspgatour.com/?p=515

My apologies NoChinDeluxe, I forgot to mention I’m on TW09 and I’ve searched the pro shop high and low and can’t come up with more 2 putting bonuses (3%) Putter and shoes

No worries, I’ve got an article for getting max bonuses in TW09 as well :)

    Hey NCD :0)!!

    Love the site. Geeeeeeeeeeeenius !!!

So the question is, can you or CAN’T you use an SD card with a stored golfer character and play WITH that character at your mate’s house ?!?!

I mean, serioulsy ??! What the FRENCH, toast ?!?

    Cheers, Davy

  24. NoChinDeluxeon 09 Nov 2009 at 8:31 pm link comment

Hey Davy! Here’s the deal. You can save your profile golfer on an SD card, BUT, if you try and load it on your mate’s Wii, you’ll erase HIS profile. So…the only way to do it is for both of you to save your profiles on SD cards, and load them every time you want to play them.

  25. Wee Davyon 11 Nov 2009 at 3:48 pm link comment

    NCD :0)!!

Thanks very much for the quick response. We’re still having RIDICULOUS trouble loading anything from the SD card. It seems that when any ONE profile is loaded to play the game, that there is absolutely no way to access player 2′s SD card.

We DO have 2 profiles saved on 2 different SD cards. We just cant get any information from the card once the wii system memory has loaded one profile !

PLEASE help. Are both of us complete MUPPETS ?!? I’ve also noticed that there are a LOT of people struggling with this.

Serioulsy ??!?! What teh FRENCH, toast ?!?!

    Thanks, NCD. You’re a geeeeeeeeeeeenius !!!

  26. NoChinDeluxeon 12 Nov 2009 at 7:23 am link comment

There is another solution you guys could try. Build your character on each other’s Wii, then buy a max stats suit from the pro-shop (I think they’re like $2 USD, and you only need to buy one and it will effect all the characters saved on the console). That way you can have two separate characters on two Wii consoles without having to play through the career twice to build them up.

Hey NoChinDeluxe – I am the other playing Wee Davy competes against and I find it hard to believe the EA Sports wasn’t smart enough to allow their golfers to simply carry their SD card with their profile and a controller to a friends place to play.

This seems to me to be quite an oversight on EA’s behalf.

As Davy would say, “what the French, toast?”

It kinda sux we can’t carry our profiles with us wherever we may go to play TW 2010.

Oh, and thanks for the great resource. I turned Davy onto it and now he kicks my butt at the game.

NCD – what a great site – My wife and son gave me the 10 Wii game for X-mas so I’m hooked but started my career before reading all of your helpful advice. I finished the ’09 year with much success and charged into the qualifying rounds – one problem was that I shot -17 on the first round (by luck more than skill – eagled all of the par 5s and had 2 hole outs – luck again). When I opened up the game for the 2nd round, I noticed that the new leader had shot the same score that I had in his 2nd rd – well, I failed to qualify since I couldn’t duplicate that great score again and every round for the leader was near that 54 number. I guess the game is fixed to duplicate your numbers?? I went into the options and tried to figure out why this happened. I had a lot of the course and weather options on really hard stuff and now I understand how lucky I was on the first round. I’m bummed because I failed to make the tour even though I played very well, so I’m playing the ’10 calender but not as a Pro. I was a decent golfer (13 hncp) but don’t golf anymore and really enjoy the game. (esp. around the greens – getting up/down is a blast)
    Any advice will be appreciated.

What you are talking about is the built in dynamic scoring in the AI. There is actually a discussion of this happening over at the EA forums right now as well. In order to give you competetive play throughout your tour season, the AI will adjust their scores based on how well you are playing. So if you get an unbelievable score (for your skill level), it’s going to be tough to finish the tournament in first place, because the AI will shoot unbelievably as well. You can “trick” the AI by throwing a few early rounds, then destroying them on the last two rounds, but I like to just beat them straight up ;) Personally, I think it’s a good system, and it’ll help you get better. Just keep practicing and you’ll find yourself beating them no matter what kind of score they get.

About this “unlocking” business… what does it even mean to unlock a course? I just did the first Tournament Challenge, and it said it “unlocked” Bay Hill, but I was already able to play on Bay Hill before, by selecting it after clicking “Play Now.” What more can I do now that I couldn’t yesterday?

  31. NoChinDeluxeon 06 Feb 2010 at 9:01 pm link comment

To unlock a course means you’re allowed to play it in a custom game. So if you go to game modes and create a new multiplayer match from there, you’ll now be able to play on Bay Hill. You shouldn’t have been able to play it on play now either, but perhaps you were either mistaken, or something quirky is happening on your disk!

  32. Adamon 07 Feb 2010 at 1:30 am link comment

When I do “Play Now,” I have 27 choices of courses, plus “Random 18″… the same 27 choices as when I first fired up the game last summer. Surely that’s the game’s normal behavior; you need to be able to play somewhere!

  33. NoChinDeluxeon 07 Feb 2010 at 12:28 pm link comment

That’s NOT the normal game behavior, haha! You should only start with a selection of a few courses, then you should have to unlock the rest. So you got a nice gift from the game!

  34. Adamon 13 Feb 2010 at 3:17 pm link comment

I poked around a little more and discovered that everything’s unlocked when I do “Play Now,” but the locked courses and golfers ARE still locked when I go to “Game Modes,” then “Traditional.” Note that Play Now doesn’t include the ability to create a custom course.

  35. NoChinDeluxeon 13 Feb 2010 at 3:19 pm link comment

Right…play now is just for a quick game start, but it doesn’t give you all the features.

  36. Woodyon 28 Feb 2010 at 5:06 am link comment

Cool site, I think it’ll help my game. Doesn’t look like there’s a way to play two custom players in a tournament at the same time, or any mode that increases stats, on TW10? Me and a friend play our custom guys vs each other exclusively (so as not to gain too much of an advantage over the other). Taking turns on the challenges is the only way we’ve found so far. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  37. NoChinDeluxeon 28 Feb 2010 at 12:34 pm link comment

You can only earn stats by playing in single player modes, such as the PGA Tour season, the Tournament Challenge, or the FedEx Playoffs.

Great Site!!! I went from not being able to break par to setting course records. I’m having difficulting with approach shots to holes with alot of elevation gain. I did watch all of your videos and I’m just getting to many 30 foot putts. This happens alot when I have a wedge in my hand. Any advice? Thanks for making this game enjoyable. Dave

  39. NoChinDeluxeon 25 Mar 2010 at 6:16 pm link comment

Adjusting loft is the best way to deal with elevation change. For every foot of uphill/downhill elevation change, adjust your shot 1 yard forward or backward. But only adjust to a max of 10 feet of elevation change. If the elevation change is more than 10 feet, only adjust your shot 10 yards.

So if you are facing a shot that goes 6 feet uphill, you’ll want to add 6 yards to your shot, then loft in the percentage for that yardage, and take a 100% swing. If you are facing a shot that is 12 feet downhill, take off only 10 yards from your shot, because we only adjust for a max of 10 feet.
