I can’t wait for 2010 to hit the store shelves. The new features in the game along with motion plus will make this game one of the most pleasurable video golf experiences ever (as I have a plethora of golf games ranging from the PC, portable and game consoles).

As an avid disc golfer, finding out TW2010 has disc golf within the realm of the game makes it even more of a ‘must have’. The Innova disc golf game wasn’t really that appealing for the PC and the online versions are just as lame.

Great site ya have here No Chin, all your tips and strategies seem to be very helpful. Keep up the good work, I look forward to reading your tips & strategies for 2010.

    Roc on,

    Myers

Hey Myers, thanks so much for the kind words. And I LOVE that you are into disc golf as well! I looked into that Innova game as well, but didn’t purchase it after seeing how awful it looked. Not that I’m expecting the TW10 disc golf game to be anything amazing, but I hope it’s fun, because I have a few friends who hate playing golf video games, but would love to try disc golf on the Wii. I appreciate your visit, Myers. I look forward to seeing you around!

    hi,
I am waiting for pga TW 10 with big expectations. If new system (wii motion plus) works fine it is going to be the most realistc game. I thing tihis is now or never moment for wii.

I’m especially looking forward to the new putting system. I, unlike many others, am a big fan of the 2009 putting system. It’s not that I disliked the ’08 system, but 2008′s putting was too inconsistent for me, realistic or not. There were too many glitchy moments where my putt would fly 50 feet off the green when I swung my club very lightly. I love the precision and distance control of 2009, but I think the re-addition of the forward swing in 2010 is going to really enhance 2009′s system. I think putting will be very challenging in the new game, especially with the ability to pull your putts like a draw and fade in fairway shots.

I, like most folks, am very interesting in seeing ’10 edition. I’m just torn on buying it right away, or waiting until the wii+ controller comes out. Last I heard Nintendo hadn’t set a date for the release.

  6. Myerson 18 Apr 2009 at 3:18 am link comment

Yeah, what’s up with that? Why hasn’t Nintendo annouced a release date yet for the motion plus? TW2010 will be able to be played with the reugular wiimote but without motion plus the realistic aspects wont be present.

C’mon Nintendo, get off your duffs and push this thing out in time.

Looking forward to ’10 also. I hope the documentation is better. I am a TW newbie, and it has been a struggle trying to figure out what to do, and this site has made a few things much better.

  9. NoChinDeluxeon 03 May 2009 at 3:22 pm link comment

Hi Dennis, glad you found the site useful. I’ve noticed a few other EA games that have horrible documentation. I was just playing Madden with a friend on Xbox360 the other day, and there were quite a few tips I found online that were never mentioned in the manual.

Feel free to come back here when the new game hits, I’ll be sure to check the forums and listen to questions and get some solid articles out as soon as possible.

  10. Jakeon 21 May 2009 at 5:49 am link comment

Has anyone heard if Gary McCord and David Faherty will be announcing in the game? That is one of the BIGGEST drawbacks from 09. Those guys made me laugh. The new announcers were boring and actually got on my nerves.

  11. NoChinDeluxeon 21 May 2009 at 5:56 am link comment

Kelly Tillghman will still be announcing as in ’09, but Sam Torrance has been replaced by Scott Van Pelt from ESPN. I’m looking forward to hearing Van Pelt’s comments. I was never too thrilled with Sam Torrance. He never really said anything worth hearing. In fact, as far as the general announcing in the game goes, I’d like to hear them say some more realistic comments that you’d hear on television, such as talking about technique and maybe mentioning the conditions of the course, etc.

  12. Myerson 24 May 2009 at 3:27 pm link comment

I too loved McCord & Faherty, they both were quite comical at times. I can put up with Kelly Tilghman, but Sam Torrance was a little boring with his mono-tone voice. Hopefully Van Pelt will bring a little more pa-zaz back to the booth.

It would really be cool if you had caddy comments when playing each hole and their knowledge of the greens would make it mega realistic.

  13. NoChinDeluxeon 25 May 2009 at 9:24 am link comment

Hmmm. I love the idea of a caddy! That would be really cool. Unfortunately, it would also be nearly impossible to plan out the voice over for the various situations in which players would find themselves. After a while you’d start hearing repeated comments, and at that point you’re basically hearing another announcer saying the same pre-programmed lines over and over again.

  14. Myerson 25 May 2009 at 12:16 pm link comment

I figured it was way to much programming for the caddy comments because of the plethora of situations your ball could wind up in. It could work just on the greens though, the caddy could advise if the greens were playing slow or fast, breaks in the green, etc..etc. Maybe a stimpmeter (not sure if that’s the correct term) at the begining of each round that ties in with the weather conditions to show how fast or slow they’re playing. This feature would vary from course to course due to the different kind of grasses (bermuda or bent) along with dry or damp conditions.

Also on occasion (especially ‘being in the hunt situations’) having bits of the caddy & player squating on the greens conversing of the line would also be very cool.

  15. NoChinDeluxeon 25 May 2009 at 8:23 pm link comment

The caddy simulation would certainly work well in a text-based system. It would be nice to simply pull up some information about your current shot or about your lie on the green, but others may argue that this would give away too much information and that the player should have to make these decisions on his own.

  16. Myerson 26 May 2009 at 3:07 pm link comment

Agreed (to a certain extent), but that’s what caddies are for, to feed the player information.

  17. NoChinDeluxeon 26 May 2009 at 3:40 pm link comment

I agree, but real caddies generally give information about distance to the pin, etc. That kind of stuff is already taken care of for you in the game. So I guess my point is, what information could they give you that wouldn’t be giving you some sort of advantage in a video game?

  18. Myerson 26 May 2009 at 4:30 pm link comment

I wouldn’t say it would be an advantage if everyone was allowed caddy info. I would like to see a progressive caddy per say. The more money you earn the more knowledgable caddy you could purchase (this would be the advantage).

You actually could get real technical as with ‘Madden Football’, ‘Head Coach’ or some of the Baseball sims. All this is off the top of my head, just dreamnt up and wishful thinking. All I really wanted is to see caddy and player visualizing the line for a more realistic effect. The player could command the caddy to tend to the pin if need be for another decisive option. After sinking the winning putt, player and caddy could celebrate with a handshake and embrace as the golfers family would run out on the green to share the joy.

  19. chrison 26 May 2009 at 8:32 pm link comment

I played the demo and really hope that they change some features. The new view after you hit the ball is just stupid and annoying. The way the ball looks flying threw the air is also just plain bad it looks like a golf game thats being played on a nintendo64. It takes the realisim out of the game and ruines the experience. Last, the putting has gotten worse. They have added a bar that basicaly tells you how much to swing. The putting in all the previouse games has just been incredibly easy and now there making it more easy. Its these little things that just kill the game. I think everything els is terrific but those three things just ruin it. Really hope they do some changing.

  20. NoChinDeluxeon 27 May 2009 at 6:09 am link comment

Yeah, a lot is riding on the putting, I think. I’m glad they’ve included an option for using the ’09 putting, because I really liked that system and it was very successful to me. So if the new system doesn’t work out, at least I can go back to what worked.

  21. Dennison 29 May 2009 at 12:04 pm link comment

Woa… what putting option??? Was that on the EA TW10 site?

  22. Dennison 29 May 2009 at 12:05 pm link comment

I meant in terms of having CHOICES

  23. NoChinDeluxeon 29 May 2009 at 12:15 pm link comment

This was mentioned by Jay Shenkman on the developer blog. He says:

Of course we realize that there are many of you out there that may prefer the multiple putter system that was in last year’s game. This is now called “Classic Putting” and is an option that is available to you should you choose to use it. You can switch putting styles at any time in the game.

Do you have to pre-order a copy of TW010 to get the bundled package that includes the motion plus, or can you just show up at a ‘Game Stop’ and get one then without pre-ordering?

  25. NoChinDeluxeon 04 Jun 2009 at 7:23 pm link comment

You don’t have to pre-order, but of course you’ll be out of luck if they sell out before you get there. And we all know what it’s like trying to get Wii games/hardware that sell out fast. When TW09 came out, there was no kind of rush at all to get the game. I pre-ordered that one too, but there was no chance they were selling out. With the hype of M+, however, there could be more of a demand for a realistic golf game bundled with M+, especially with Fathers’ Day right around the corner.

  26. Myerson 09 Jun 2009 at 4:09 pm link comment

Just played my first round of stroke play at Banff Springs and I have to say that I really enjoy playing with the motion plus attachment. Drawing & fading the ball is flawless, it works 100% of the time. Putting is more realistic over the 09 version as you don’t have to wack the heck out of a 5 foot putt.

I’m dying to find out how the weather and galleries are as I haven’t gotten into depth yet (I’m sure they’re awesome). Being an avid disc golfer, playing a round of disc golf was fun also. You can throw backhand or forehand, and making that 40ft putt is just as satisfying as the real thing.

All things said, great game and improved profusely (so far) over TW09.

Gotta get back to more game play…yak at ya later.

  27. Jasonon 03 Aug 2009 at 9:18 am link comment

Hi everyone, one quick question that I’m having no luck finding anywhere else.

I’ve just made it to the PGA Tour Champion level in TW10 on the Wii. I’ve owned 08 and 09 and as in those games set my tournaments to 2 rounds a piece to keep the computer scoring from getting ridiculous. My question is, is this still a problem in 10? Can I set my tourneys to 4 rounds and not see the computer going -31 to compensate for my play?

Second question, I’ve gone through the game so far at Standard swing difficulty, mainly to use putt preview, I feel like the amount of practice and input from caddies that the pros get makes putt preview not much of a cheat. Hell, I even hit the practice green before a round to get a feel for how the ball is rolling that day. Is there a way to put swing difficulty at Advanced, but keep the ability to spin the ball and the putt preview?

Seems like when I turn the difficulty to advanced I lose both.

    Thanks!

  28. NoChinDeluxeon 03 Aug 2009 at 12:38 pm link comment

Hi Jason! Welcome, and thanks for posting. For your first question, the dynamic scoring is the same as in previous versions of the game. The performance of your opponents will be directly affected by your performance.

For your second question, I don’t think there is anyway you can have both. My suggestion is to just play with standard swing. Eric Busch, an EA developer on the game, mentioned that all advanced swing does is basically amplify the effects of the draw/fade system on longer shots, and the push/pull system on putting. This basically means that if you learn how to hit the ball straight, these factors are pretty much not in play anymore. So I’ve found that because I’ve learned to hit the ball straight in standard swing, there is pretty much no difference in difficulty when I switch to advanced. So if you are attached to putt preview and spin, then I would up the difficulty by messing with things like pin placement and grass speeds instead.

  29. Jasonon 03 Aug 2009 at 1:03 pm link comment

Thanks No Chin, I was just reading on the EA Boards about the sponsorships being random as well, which answered my next question, I had heard they were tied to the difficulty you played at, which I thought wasn’t the best way to do things as it would keep newer players from getting sponsors.

I currently have 3 sponsors and am used to the amount I got in 09 which I never even made it to the Pro Tour and had 5 or 6.

Great game though I’m loving it! Like your site as well, was reading about tuning my clubs and club selection, gonna try them out tonight…

  30. NoChinDeluxeon 04 Aug 2009 at 6:26 am link comment

Yeah, the sponsorships are random, but I think Eric forgot to mention that they come in tiers. For instance, I don’t think you’ll ever get Nike or TaylorMade for your first couple of sponsorships. You’ll always get them near the end and you’ll get things like Adidas and McGreggor near the beginning.

  31. Jasonon 04 Aug 2009 at 6:32 am link comment

Makes sense, wish I had more sponsors that unlock clubs..right now I have Odyssey which gave me a sweet putter, 3G which unlocked an ugly hat and an uglier shirt and I just got Quiksilver…

  32. NoChinDeluxeon 04 Aug 2009 at 6:56 am link comment

Really sponsorships mean nothing. I mean if you want your character to have cool gear and to earn more money, that’s one thing, but in the grand scope of things, stats and bonus combinations are much more important since all equipment performs the exact same way.

  33. Jasonon 04 Aug 2009 at 7:43 am link comment

Yeah, I guess you’re right, it’s a little archaic when you see the “Level” of clubs and the bonuses given, but they really don’t tell you what the Level means and the bonuses only give a small boost anyway…

I wish they’d institute a way to make it a little more like the real Tour, where you have to spend money on things like travel, caddies, entry fees and such. Would make missing the cut a little more painful say at the British Open if you paid $8k to get you and your caddie there…then you’d have to play some smaller tourneys to build your cash back up. I think it would make it more fun as you would have consequences and choices to make about which tourneys you enter and ones you don’t.

  34. NoChinDeluxeon 04 Aug 2009 at 4:14 pm link comment

Yeah that’s a great idea. Kind of like a “story mode”. I like it!

  35. Jasonon 05 Aug 2009 at 6:12 am link comment

Okay I’ll expect you to put that one in TW 11.. :) Kidding.

    Hello,

I am just wondering how 2010 keeps up par 3, 4, and 5 scoring. I have 99% of the game complete and I just neeed to lead the tour in all categories and guys are averaging 2.2 on par 4′s…that’s just not feasible. This is really starting to bug me. Any help is appreciated!

  40. NoChinDeluxeon 16 Mar 2010 at 7:30 am link comment

Are you talking about the AI?

  41. Joshon 06 Apr 2010 at 5:14 pm link comment

    What do you mean AI?

  42. NoChinDeluxeon 06 Apr 2010 at 6:40 pm link comment

AI means “artificial intelligence.” So what I’m asking is when you say “guys are averaging 2.2 on par 4′s” are you talking about the computer opponents?

  43. Joshon 07 Apr 2010 at 3:57 pm link comment

    Yes!

  44. NoChinDeluxeon 09 Apr 2010 at 8:46 am link comment

Your computer opponents are programmed to play as well as you play. So if you are getting good scores, they’ll get slightly better scores. So if you pretty much birdie every par 4, then their average should be somewhere in the mid-2.0′s.

  45. Rosson 21 Apr 2010 at 5:30 am link comment

Hi…recently I started competing in the online tournaments, the daily and weekly. With the daily tournaments I need to better my score by 3-5 shots as I average around -17 where as the leaders are around -22. I think I need some advice because I’ve tried everything I can think of. More recently I tried tuning my clubs for accuracy, rather than power. It hasn’t really improved my final score but has given me consistency.

Could you please shed some light on what the leaders are doing to get such great scores? Or refer me to a comprehensive resource for the online tournaments?

Thank you for your time, cheers.

  46. NoChinDeluxeon 21 Apr 2010 at 7:48 am link comment

There a few things the tournament winners are doing. First of all, they are playing the tournaments multiple times. If you play through a tournament 5-6 times, you can map exactly what clubs you need for what shots and know all your distances to everything. The second thing is chip tracers. Some (but definitely not all) players use chipping on the green instead of putting so they can have unlimited practice swings until they see their shot tracer go in the cup. It’s like unlimited putt preview. (This has been fixed for TW11, by the way)

The last thing is just practice. The players who win those tournaments know what they are doing. If you’re averaging -17 then you are obviously an advanced player as well, but learning how to hit partial shots with long clubs is key to getting on those drivable par 4 holes in one.

  47. Rosson 24 Apr 2010 at 7:33 am link comment

Ok thanx…Its a bummer that some players are using that method. But knowing that I can get within a few shots of those players makes me feel pretty good I guess. If I played a great game and could nail a hole in one I might actually be able to complete.

I don’t play the online tournaments anymore after learning this.

I’m looking forward to Tiger 11. I’ve seen your review here. One of my biggest hopes is that the graphics are better. And to be able to play an honest online tournament will be super cool bro.

As always thanks for taking time to reply.

  48. NoChinDeluxeon 24 Apr 2010 at 7:46 am link comment

The graphics have been updated for TW11!! They’ve added some more vegetation and more houses and stuff along the courses. It looks great and is definitely an improvement over TW10.

  49. Rosson 30 Apr 2010 at 8:12 am link comment

Nice, I hope that the graphics are crisper, better definition or resolution to get rid of that blur.

Recently I started playing “simultaneous play” online. Its been fun for the most part. Seems a fair way to play. Although some have quit on me, one player quit at the very last second at the 18th hole. But I’ve come across some other players that were good sportsmen, close games, and didn’t quit on me.

So, I have a couple of questions about the Simultaneous play that I was unable to find answers for by googling:

If your opponent quits do you get any sort of credit if you were ahead? Or is there at least a penalty to that player for quitting?

Also…do you know of any leagues for “simultaneous play” that I could hook up with where they play either tournaments or matches with a good group of players, such as myself?

    Thank you for your time.

  50. NoChinDeluxeon 30 Apr 2010 at 2:28 pm link comment

If a player quits on you at any time after the completion of the 2nd hole, you automatically get the win. So don’t worry about them quitting, cause you’ll get the credit and the points for the win.

If you want to join a good online league, you’ll want to head to the WiiGA. It’s an online league that I co-founded with some other great players and I currently serve as an admin there. You can check it out at http://wiigatour.proboards.com/

  51. Rosson 17 May 2010 at 1:02 pm link comment

Playing ‘simultaneous play’ has been going well for me. But I was wondering how to get the same settings offline as online, so that I can practice a particular course(s) offline then apply that skill online. But the thing is, I noticed that when I play offline my abilities are much greater.

So, is it a particular difficulty setting i need to have it on offline that is the same as online play?

    Thanx for your time.

  52. NoChinDeluxeon 17 May 2010 at 5:17 pm link comment

Your offline play shouldn’t be any different than online play. If you are needing to set things like faster greens or fairways, all of that stuff is accessible in the game options. But other than that there shouldn’t be anything different.

  53. Rosson 17 May 2010 at 6:18 pm link comment

My wife and I noticed this the other night when competing offline, that we could hit the ball much farther on a particular course that we both play at in our online games. I only noticed this with teeing off. It was a huge difference.

I began to think that the extra 10% bonus skills might not be applied when online, like when offline. It is a substantial difference.

Perhaps I should try to make it happen again this evening, then I could keep record of the course etc, to give better details. Maybe it wont happen again or I am mistaken.

Thanx for your reply! :) .

  54. NoChinDeluxeon 18 May 2010 at 9:48 am link comment

This really shouldn’t be the case. Are you sure you are playing the same tees as online? If you are playing “play anyone” matches online, you would be playing from the blue tees for every match. So if you play from the white tees when playing offline, you would notice a big difference on how far you could get the ball down the fairway.

  55. Rosson 18 May 2010 at 3:51 pm link comment

Yup yup…well, I rarely play ‘play anyone’ anymore, just when I cannot get a game in ‘simultaneous play’. Tee off position would explain it. Honestly I am not entirely sure what the different color tee offs mean when setting up or joining a game. I’ll have to gurgle it.

The hole I first noticed it on and was able to make it happen again was at the Wolf Creek course, hole #14, tee off.

Thanx for helping me sort it out. My offline game settings have been tweaked in the past, so I guess I just need to get them the same as EA’a online settings.

My EA name is: runnindeer. Maybe see you guys there sometime. Thanx :) .

  56. NoChinDeluxeon 18 May 2010 at 8:08 pm link comment

OK good, glad you got it figured out. White tees are the shortest, blues are the medium distance tees, and blacks are the longest and most difficult. If you “play anyone” online, you’ll always be playing from the blue tees, and if you play a custom game online, it’s up to the game creator to select the tees.

OK, NoChin, thanks for all the awesome info so far. I can’t wait to see this site light up once TW2011 is out! I have one question though I can’t seem to find info on anywhere. I was doing the challenges, one of the medium ones, a 9 hole stroke course, and lost it miserably. But when I finished I achieved Phenom status. What did I do to achieve Phenom status, and what other statuses (sp?) are there and what do I need to do to ahcieve those? Thanks.

  61. NoChinDeluxeon 02 Jun 2010 at 12:02 pm link comment

You achieve your statuses by completing portions of the game in career mode. As you win a certain number of tournaments and majors, etc., your status is upgraded and you receive more sponsors and get access to better gear and swings. I can’t remember all of the statuses off the top of my head, by I think there is amateur, rookie, champion, phenom, and legend. There are probably some I’m missing.

  62. Chris32on 02 Jun 2010 at 12:41 pm link comment

Thanks, I’ll need to try and find more info on all the statuses maybe by calling EA or something, I have not won any tournaments yet, the ones I started on the tour I came in dead last on all of them, so I stopped and went on the the challenges to upgrade my stats and get the practice in, then I became Phenom. I have not gone back and attempted any tournaments or actual rounds since I started the challenges, except for what is in the challenges, like there is an 18 hole challenge in the mediums I needed to shoot a 64 on. If I find more info, I’ll post it here.

  63. Chris32on 07 Jun 2010 at 6:52 am link comment

OK, I’ve learned so far, that at 10% game completion I became Phenom, and at 20% I became Champion. So, I guess it’s every 10% of game you become a new status, and I’ve gotten there with beating 47/48 challenges and not winning any tournaments.
