Yeah, I was inspired to use Kiawah as an example after I just played a match with the following conditions:

    black tees
    expert pins
    fast fairway
    fast greens
    gale force winds

It was crazy difficult! Slow fairways make it even more difficult in my opinion because you get less distance off the tee.

    NoChin,

Just shot a 60 on the back nine @ Banff Springs to finish in a tie for 1st @ Q-School!!!! Lost the match on the 3rd playoff hole cause I missed a birdie putt, but your long irons video helped SO much! I shot a 28 on the back nine!!! Thanks!

Awesome! Great job! Glad to hear it helped. Let me know if there are any other tips/tutorials you’d like to see in the future. I’ll be glad to help out where I can!

You must live near an airport.

In the first video, you’re incorrect when you say that hitting down hill will lead the ball to roll farther, or at least in contradiction with real life. A downhill shot in real life will descend at a steeper angle, having less of a forward momentum when it hits the ground.

  9. NoChinDeluxeon 15 Nov 2009 at 10:28 pm link comment

Hey Kevin. First of all, I don’t live near an airport, haha. Those plane sounds are in the game. And for some reason they always seem to show up when I’m trying to make a video!

As for the downhill shot, hitting down on the shot produces less loft, and the ball flies more straight ahead than up in the air. Whether or not this happens in real life makes no difference, but that’s the effect the shot has in the game.

    Hi NoChin,

thanks for your help with the Irons.
Can you give me a tip, how to reach 100 % withe the long Irons using
    WiMotion?
The same tipps as describe in the 100% Driving post ?

    Thanks…

Hey Jordi, yes use the same priciples I describe in the 100% driving article. The main factor is that little wrist break at the top. You really need to point that remote toward your screen before you start coming down again.

Good info on dialing in the wind and elevation.

I put this idea into practice and this is what I found and thought it might be helpful to someone else.

Pins in the back of the green are hard to get at because of the backspin of the wedges. (for me, I’ve been tweaking the spin and loft of the wedges and will get this reduced maybe?) The good news is that 3,4,5,6 irons don’t spin much.

So… check to see where the pin is located before teeing off. If it’s at the back of the green you might want to lay up with the tee shot and hit a 5-iron into the green. Other things to consider… head wind will spin the ball back more… if the course you are playing has a lot of back to front pitch in the greens this will spin the ball more to. If there is a false front on a green you don’t want to spin the ball back and off the green.

    So… I created 2 pods of clubs…. 5,6,7,8 and GW,SW,LDW, LW..
Also carry the P, D, 3w, 7w, 3i, PW (this may change as I’ve just hit on this site and the pod idea for my clubs and have yet to dial it in, don’t hit the 3w much…)

Depending on the pin, wind, and pitch of a green I will try to lay my tee shots up in the 6 to 7 OR SW to LDW range. If there are bunkers to avoid or trees to get past etc…. this isn’t always possible but it is darn near ALL the time. ***If it’s real windy I like to hit the longer irons in all the time as the wind has less affect (left to right etc…)

Results…. I’m new to TW10 as of this Christmas, shooting 64-70 for a round adjusting my swing percent for shots.

I tuned my clubs per this sights recommendations….practiced maybe 4 rounds with “play now” using mulligans etc..to get the feel of dialing in a 100% swing each time. Then headed out to my next tournament, which was at Doral, think there was a 14mph wind. I didn’t shoot a -29 :) I did shoot a 57…. had 1 bogey… and missed 3 makeable putts (I’m tweaking that process too)….

USE THIS SYSTEM… that the guys on this sight have laid out.. it works like a charm. The pros lay up all the time so they can hit a specific shot into a green… so it makes sense for us too… yes? :)

    Peace…

    Hey NoChinDeluxe,

    First things first: Great site!!!

I started playing “Tiger Woods 10 Wii” this week and this site helped me a lot so far. (I never played a Tiger Woods golf game before, so I’m really a newbie)

I still have a bit of trouble with some approach shots though. Especially with the wedges. With the irons your methods work pretty good, although I have to fine tune my clubs a bit. But do you use the same formulas with the wedges? Add 1 yard for every foot up? And how about the wind? Or doesn’t the wind effect the ball with those short approaches? I’m a bit confused there and it costs me a lot of shots.

I played a -9 at Doral already, so I think I’m doing pretty good so far.

Take a look at my other video which is all about wedges ;) I also talk about wind and elevation changes, as well as putting tips! Here’s the link:

Thanks for the reply. I saw that video too, but I’m still struggling a bit. It’s hard to get some kind of consistency for the approach shots. Sometimes I get real close and sometimes I’m way off (using the same formulas). And that is kind of confusing.
I’m also confused about where to start the adjustments. For now I start with the pin in the middle of the circle and take 2 yards off (for roll). After that I take the wind and elevation into account. After that I loft in the shot. It works pretty good, but like I said: Not all the time……

My stats are still at 40% and 30% (the beginners stats), does that effect my game too? Do I have to get them to 100% to be more accurate at my approach shots?

Driving and putting are not really the problem. But the shots in between are killing me sometimes :(

And I hate the fairway woods. I only carry a 3W and a 7W, but it’s really hard to get the ball where you want with those. Especially when you’re nearing the green.

But hey, I’ll keep trying and fine tuning my game. I still love to hit the links……

  17. NoChinDeluxeon 19 Apr 2010 at 8:07 pm link comment

Oh I didn’t know your stats were so low! That makes a HUGE difference…and I mean HUGE. Your character does not control distance or accuracy nearly as well when your stats are not maxed out. This will make you shots erratic and uncontrollable. When you finish building up all your skills, you’ll see a big difference in how well you approach. Keep working on that character, and you’ll see much better results in time.

You’ll have to play tournament mode to build your stats, right?

    I’ll start right away :)

  19. NoChinDeluxeon 20 Apr 2010 at 6:03 am link comment

You can play either the PGA Tour season or you can play the Tournament Challenge to earn skill points. I recommend playing through the Tournament Challenge first, as it will strengthen your skills as a player, allow you to work on specific areas of your game, and the challenges take a short time to complete each one. Then once you’ve completed that, you’ll have some upgraded skills that you can head into the PGA Tour with. Those will help you win more tournaments right at the start.

    Thanks for the tip.

I played the New year’s Tournament first with my low stats. Played a -4 for 6th place. Not that bad :)

But now I started with the Tournament Challenge. I’m at 50% now and earned a lot of cash. I bought some new equipment at the store and improved my skills to 50%-60%.

The 16 “Easy” Challenges were really easy. I completed them all in the first try. The “Medium” challenges are a little tougher, but I’m half way through on those too. So I’m on my way ;)

Still a great game and I can see that my character is getting better. Can’t wait to play the big tournaments!
