How to Get Max Stats in 2010

Glenmcd2 authored Gear Your Character Should Use to Gain Maximum Stat Bonuses for us last season, and he has come through again in 2010! Below he provides a step-by-step selection process for gaining the maximum stat bonuses available to your profile character. Note: This list is for male characters only. If you are looking for the Max Stats Gear List for female characters, you can find that by clicking here.

Regarding “bonus skills”, in TW10 you can achieve an absolute maximum of 31, providing you with 10% bonus on all attributes except putting. If you really want 10% bonus with putting, then you must be prepared to drop down to only 6% bonus on two other items, or 3% on one item. Here’s what you need to buy:

Swing:
Once you achieve Phenom status, buy a swing that gives you one power bonus

Jewelry:
You need to buy several items:
Turquoise Rings (RH) gives you two luck bonuses
Gold Bull Ring gives you two luck bonuses
Holeshot (LH) watch gives you one power and one ball striking bonus
Holeshot (RH) watch gives you one power and one ball striking bonus

Driver:
There are several drivers that give you one power and one accuracy bonus

Fairway Wood:
Get one that gives you one accuracy and one spin bonus

Irons:
One ball striking and one approach bonus

Wedges:
One approach and one recovery bonus

Shirt:
One accuracy and one recovery bonus

Pants:
One approach and one spin bonus

Glove (LH)
One ball striking and one putting bonus

Ball:
One accuracy and one spin bonus

Misc:
Nothing here. If you buy a wrist band, it will replace the watch on the same hand. Adding one bonus and removing two is not a good idea.

Glasses:
One approach bonus

Shaft:
One recovery bonus

Hat:
One putting bonus

Putter:
One putting bonus

Shoes:
This is the item that decides whether you have 10% bonus on putting or not. To get maximum bonuses but only 6% on putting, choose an item that gives you one spin and one recovery bonus. Else, choose one that gives you one putting bonus.

Many of these items require certain sponsors, or completion of a certain number of events, or a certain status (Champion/Superstar etc). To get maximum bonuses for a profile that does not have all of these, is very complex indeed.  Several people, including myself, have created a spreadsheet to assist with this. In the end however, I’m not sure which took more time – creating the spreadsheet, or completing the tour!

    Hey Nochin,

Great site! Can you tell me what “holeshot” is under jewelry I need to purchase? I don’t see it……

  2. StephColberton 09 Aug 2009 at 10:51 am link comment

I think I just figured out what the prob is: my character is female, not male. So the same items aren’t available if you’re a girl! I wish someone had a list for female characters…

  3. NoChinDeluxeon 09 Aug 2009 at 11:14 am link comment

The list of items for female characters should be close to the same. Usually there are only slight differences. Not sure what holeshot is. I’ll have to ask glenmcd and let him get back to you.

  4. Glenmcdon 10 Aug 2009 at 12:44 am link comment

Well unfortunately, EA Sports have in the past and this year too, given an unfair advantage competition wise, to American males. if you use metric, you are at a severe disadvantage. If you create a female profile, you have in the past been able to get to less bonuses than males within the same release.

I’ve just now created a female profile, looked in the pro shop, and indeed you cannot buy anything that gives any attribute other than luck.

This isn’t to say that females cannot get 31 bonuses in total. But the guide I did was for males, and a similar guide last year, meant a bonus count only one less than it was for the males. This year, I have no idea what the full story is.

I’m sorry that I haven’t got a better answer for you.

To create the above guide, I created a spreadsheet, and enter information from virtually every item that it was possible to get any bonuses from. It took some considerable time to do, as well as fiddling around with the “what ifs” to get the absolute maximum bonuses available. I can only suggest that a similar exercise would get you the information that you need. To do it without something like a spreadsheet or database would be near impossible. Last year, it was difficult but possible. This year no way.

I’m going to see what %’s I can get by just eyeballing items…..I have already gotten in to the top 200 in rank and I’m not even 100% on everything yet. So if I can get 105%-107% and do well with that then I’ll just go with it. If I feel I really need 110% then I’ll put the work in and share the info here.

    Thanks for the responses, guys.

StephColbert! Check out the new article! No eye-balling necessary!

Any update here? Anyone able to get 10% on everything?

  9. NoChinDeluxeon 19 Aug 2009 at 2:26 pm link comment

You shouldn’t be able to. We weren’t able to achieve this in TW09, and I don’t think it’s changed for TW10. I’ll let you know if I hear something, but so far, I haven’t heard of anyone achieving this.

Hi, Great website, I’m gonna enjoy reading these articles. I just have a question about these bonuses. I’m playing on a WII. In the Pro Shop I can find for example a driver for $2000 that has power and accuracy bonuses and is level 3 and another with the same bonuses for $3500 and its level 4. When I click on buy the next screen (where you actually complete the purchase) says bonus items not available. What are these levels? Does it refer to club or do I need to attain the level? Am I gaining a bonus by buying these items. I have Phenom status.

  11. NoChinDeluxeon 29 Sep 2009 at 6:10 am link comment

The levels of the items determine how much of a bonus you receive to the attributes they provide. So for instance, the level 4 driver would provide more of a power and accuracy boost to your stats than the level 3.

If the item you tried to purchase wasn’t available, it means you haven’t reached sufficient status in your career to purchase that item. Sometimes you need to be at a certain career level (such as Phenom status), and other times you need a sponsorship from the brand who owns the item. Either way, when you try to purchase and you get that screen that tells you it isn’t available, it should list what you need to achieve in order to purchase that item.

  12. John Stewarton 16 Nov 2009 at 7:23 pm link comment

I have the same issue. I can buy the club with the bonuses attached but it tells me the bonuses aren’t available. Do i need to be at 100% in all categories before bonuses will attach? For example my power is 100% (but not all categories are at 100%) and if i try to buy something with just a power bonus that is unlocked, it will let me buy it but tells me the bonus is not available…

  13. John Stewarton 16 Nov 2009 at 7:26 pm link comment

OH BTW, it’s the swing with a power bonus (i’m a phenom) i can buy the swing but it tells me the bonus is not available. My power is 100% but not everything is yet.

  14. NoChinDeluxeon 16 Nov 2009 at 9:47 pm link comment

Hmmm…that’s interesting. I don’t think you need 100% in everything before you get bonuses, but that could be the case. Has it ever happened when you purchased an item in the pro shop, or only when you’ve tried to purchase a swing?

  15. John Stewarton 17 Nov 2009 at 2:55 pm link comment

The only thing i’ve actually bought is a swing with a power bonus. I have selected gear from the pro shop that come with bonuses but when i select them there’s a box where it says bonuses not available, but there’s also an opportunity to buy the item. So it’s not telling me i can’t buy the item, just that the bonuses are not available.

I’m at Phenom status and have 100% only in power and putting so far.

Thanks for your input, love the site.

I just taken up TW10 after playing 07 for quite a while. I find my putting and driving are solid but my middle game (wedges especially) are pretty iffy. My wedge play was much better in ’07. But i haven’t been at it very long on ’10 so i expect to improve/get the hang of it sooner or later…

Bonus items are not the same as bonus attributes. For example, if you purchase a suit using Wii points, you get more than one suit, and in this case the extra suits are referred to as “bonus items”. Bonus attributes however add to your power, accuracy, ball striking etc. Go ahead and purchase any item in the pro shop to build your attributes up. You can get bonus attributes regardless of whether the particular attribute is at zero percent of 110 percent or anything in between. The only real restrictions are when an item is locked, and when you are wearing a suit. Hope this helps.

  17. John Stewarton 18 Nov 2009 at 11:40 am link comment

Okay, thanks. So how do i know i’ve gotten the bonus attribute? I bought the swing but my power still says it’s at 100% I don’t think my driving distance changed, but i could be wrong about that.

  18. NoChinDeluxeon 18 Nov 2009 at 2:11 pm link comment

You can see your bonus stats by going in to the “view my stats” section of the career mode. When you highlight a particular stat, you’ll see up in the top right corner of the screen what percentage (up to 10%) of a bonus you currently have.

  19. John Stewarton 18 Nov 2009 at 3:55 pm link comment

Okay, thanks again, i’ll check that out when i get back on the wii. I do think i’ve been out hitting my aiming circle lately. Is that how it works, my bonus power is not accounted for with the aiming circle? Is a 100% swing now 110% whereas the circle shows me what 100% would do?

  20. John Stewarton 18 Nov 2009 at 6:42 pm link comment

Stupid question right? You guys play in advanced mode without aiming circles…

  21. NoChinDeluxeon 18 Nov 2009 at 8:54 pm link comment

First of all, no, we play with aiming circles just like everyone else! But you are incorrect about the bonus power. The aiming circle accounts for your power bonuses by basically just adding yardage to the max distance of your clubs. So wherever your aiming circle is, that’s where your shot should go with all bonuses applied.

  22. John Stewarton 18 Nov 2009 at 10:51 pm link comment

Okay, now that i’ve been back to the wii, it seems the swing purchase did not add to my power, but the gear i just bought did (noticed it in my new driving distance number, 336 to 342) I’ve also improved my play a lot by adding some wedges to my bag, thanks to this site for that tip.

I went to my career, my stats, viewed my records but could not highlight any of them. Was i in the wrong section?

A couple more minor questions (if you can stand it): When adjusting the loft of a club during play for distance, is there any indication of what the new distance will be, or do you just have to know it?

And even less importantly, i originally set my player to precision putting but changed to classic. As often as i change that setting in My Golfer, i always revert to precision the next time i play.

    Thanks again.

  23. NoChinDeluxeon 19 Nov 2009 at 8:50 am link comment

I’m sorry, I sent you to the wrong screen. I always forget that your stats page is something different. In your career menu, go to “my skills.” There, at the top of the screen, you’ll see your skill bonuses added by your gear.

As for your swing power bonus, if you are already maxed out on power, you won’t get any more bonuses. If your total driver distance is 342, you’re pretty close. If you don’t have your driver tuned to max distance, then you’ve probably got all the power bonuses you are allowed to have. Check your “my skills” page to see if you have a 10% power bonus.

When adjusting the loft of your club during play, it won’t adjust the aiming circle for you or tell you the distance. You have to know how to convert the distance. Luckily, that’s very easy. Take off about 1% of power for every press of the d-pad. So you want to set up your aiming circle first to where you want to aim, look at the power percentage you need to hit that shot, then add the appropriate amount of loft to get there. Watch my video, “Basics of Approach and Putting” if you need help with this.

If you want to switch your putting style, also go to the “game setup” options screen, and set the putting style there to classic. That should change the global putting.

Thanks so much. I can’t believe i never noticed the bonus information on the Skills page, i’m there all the time. Now i just have to get a few more sponsorships to maximize my bonuses.

And i will watch the videos.

    Thanks again.

Thanks a lot for having this site. EA should be ashamed of themselves for their complete lack of documentation.

I still don’t understand the “Levels” that certain items have. I saw someone say, somewhere in this site, that a Level 4 driver will hit farther than a Level 3 driver. Okay. But what does it mean when other items, like clothing or jewelry, are Level 3 vs. Level 2 or Level 1? Does the cloverleaf associated with a Level 2 shirt give you more luck than the same icon on Level 1?

  26. NoChinDeluxeon 24 Nov 2009 at 7:36 am link comment

Hey Adam. That comment you saw is actually right above this one a few posts up! Basically, after you get 100% stats in a certain category (e.g. power, accuracy, putting, etc.), you can earn bonus stats on top of that, up to 10% extra. The items your character wears from the pro shop add these bonuses. The higher the level of the item you are wearing, the greater the bonus. So a level 1 gets you something like 1% extra, while a level 4 item gets you 4% or something close to that. So you can get the 10% bonus quicker by wearing more level 4 gear. Make sense?

I have a problem and I wanted to see if anyone else has noticed this or not, or if it’s just me or if there’s something I haven’t done. First off, I’m playing the Wii version, and I’ve noticed that none of the watches give bonuses. I haven’t been able to find anything about it so is this a known issue?

  28. NoChinDeluxeon 11 Dec 2009 at 4:38 pm link comment

Not all items in the pro-shop give bonuses. Some are just there so you can put them on their character. It also gives players options right at the beginning before they start earning the better items through sponsorships, etc.

Incredible game this TW10. And a phenomenal web site NoChinDeluxe et al. Thanks. Due to increasing medical problems I recently had to give up 55-years of outdoor golf experiences and fellowship due to a debilitating condition in my hands and went to Wii with the sole purpose of resuming manageable play options with TW10. Little did I know that TW10 is more than a game; it is a lifestyle! The only thing I have found missing was the gateway to the experience, such as a manual or guide book. With your web site, and the wealth of information contained herein, I feel as if I have found a superhighway, one that will take me on a long fascinating journey through TW10 (and beyond). And I am eternally grateful. It was a sad morning when I unloaded all my golf gear at “Play It Again Sports” and a most happy afternoon to find Wii, TW10, and your web site – i am energized beyond all expectations. Thanks again gents.

Great to hear CaptWii! Sorry to hear about your injuries, but hopefully you’ll fill that 9-iron shaped hole with a Wiimote instead. You’ll find that the comraderie and sportsmanship surrounding the game is just as good as any foursome you’d find out on the course. I encourage you to check out the Wii Forums at EA to find friends or you can join our online league, the WiiGA Tour. We have tournaments and pick up games around the clock! Here are the links to both:

The bonus items that are not available, I think, are for when you use your Wii Points to buy the suits. That is the only time I have seen bonus items in that window. Because when you get one suit with your wii points you get the other suits in the same category. I could be mistaken, but this is my thoughts on that. One way to nake sure is to look at your skill icons, change one thing (say swing for instance, go to your custom swing so that any possible power icons from the purchased ones disappear) save and check again. I think you will see you lose an icon somewhere. Replace the swing you just changed out of and your power icon should be back.

    And i’m back…

I haven’t been able to find a shirt that gives me an accuracy and a recovery bonus. I’ve even noticed that the bonuses change on some items as you cycle through the different colors but i still haven’t found the shirt with the appropriate bonuses…

    Which shirt is it?

    Thanks.

  33. Glenon 12 Jan 2010 at 9:49 pm link comment

    hi John,
the fastest way to find the shirts with accuracy and recovery is to use the sort function. Press “1″ and select level 3 for level, or EA Sports for brand or both. You’ll find six shirts with the right bonuses.

Is all of this discussion talking about Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2010 for the Wii or does it also apply to the version for the PS3?

  36. Neilon 11 Feb 2010 at 1:39 pm link comment

Basically I’m wondering how you get max stats or additional stats for the ps3 version. Unless I’m wrong, I don’t believe items in the pro shop have for eg a power bonus AND an accuracy bonus. In the ps3 version I believe it just has one bonus category, like power for eg.

  37. NoChinDeluxeon 12 Feb 2010 at 9:45 am link comment

Hey Neil, I’ve never played the PS3 version so I really can’t help you with that one. The Wii version is quite different from Xbox360, and I’m assuming it’s quite different from PS3 as well. I think the stat system is even different!

  38. C Smithon 18 Feb 2010 at 1:36 pm link comment

Does the game really force you to wear a bright colored EA sweatshirt, some funky patterned Oakley pants, and a Cobra visor to get max stats?

I haven’t been able to find a combo other than that to fit the description of necessary items above hah…

Does anyone have any of these mysterious spreadsheets with possible item combinations?

    thanks!

  39. NoChinDeluxeon 18 Feb 2010 at 5:46 pm link comment

If you want the best possible stats combo, those are the clothes to wear. Sorry to say it :/ I personally don’t wear these clothes, however, and my character does just fine. Mine actually looks good and I still do quite well online. So don’t think that super max stats is the only way to win.

With that said, many players have complained that they have to dress their character to look like an American tourist in the 80s to get the best stats, so this is something that is being addressed for next year’s game.
