Gear Your Character Should Use to Gain Maximum Stat Bonuses

Here is a re-post of glenmcd2′s list of gear for gaining the maximum bonuses for your stats. This list was originally posted by glenmcd2 on the EA Forums, and you can find the link on the Useful Links Page, but I thought I’d post the whole thing here as well so that it was easier to find. A huge thanks to glenmcd2 for taking the time to figure this stuff out and for sharing it with the rest of us!

1. When you gain “phenom” status, buy a swing. This gives you one power attribute. As you gain champion and then superstar status, buy a better swing.

2. Shirt: ClimaShell Piped Wind Shirt provides accuracy and ball striking, level 4.

3. Pants: EA SPORTS Camo Shorts. You need to win “The Players Championship”, “Summer Swing” or “TW Shootout”. Gives you luck and approach, level 4.

4. Shoes: I use Traxion Paragon II but I think there are many shoes that will give you putting and recovery attributes, level 4.

5. Glove: I use Sciflex (LH) which gives power attribute, level 3.

6. Hat: I use EA SPORTS Backward Cap which gives luck and recovery, level 4. Most other hats have some sort of a peak, which gets in the way of your putting line, or don’t give you the above attributes.

7. Glasses: I use Romeo 2.0 which gives luck and ball striking, level 3.

8. Jewelry: I wear the turquois necklace, which doesn’t show (who would want it to?), it gives luck and recovery attributes, level 4.

9. Miscellaneous: I wear EA SPORTS Wrist Band (LH) and EA SPORTS Wrist Band (RH). Each gives one accuracy so two accuracy out of this pair. Both level 2.

10. Socks: I use ClimaLite Low Cut Sock which gives recovery attribute, level 2. You need Adidas sponsorship for these.

11. Driver: Pick a driver that gives you power + spin attributes. You’ll need a sponsor for this, but from memory you have a choice. A different brand does nothing for distance. Level 3 regardless of brand. If you want a level 4 driver, then the best you can get is just power (no spin).

12. Fairway woods: I use Taylormade Burner TP. They give Power + spin attributes, level 3. Again there may be others that have these attributes.

13. Irons: I use Bridgestone i10 irons. They give ball striking and approach attributes, level 3. If you want level 4 then you can’t have both of these attributes.

14. Wedges: I use Mizuno MP T Series Black Nickel wedges. They give approach and spin attributes, level 3. Bridgestone have wedges with these attributes also.

15. Putter: I’m not certain whether different putters can actually be better, I haven’t seen convincing proof either way in TW09 just yet. Get something with putting and luck attributes, most have these and some to level 4.

16. Shafts: I use True Temper Black Gold X. They are extra stiff, which in real life golf at least, decrease accidental fade/draw to some degree, with a downside of digging in too much when hitting out of the rough, and slightly lower club head speed. In the game I have not seen obvious differences between regular, stiff and extra stiff, although this may come down to not being discerning enough. Shafts give you either accuracy or spin – never both. The shafts I chose give spin, level 4.

17. Balls: I use HX Tour. They give spin and accuracy, level 4. You will need Callaway Golf sponsorship for this. Also available is Nike ONE Platinum with no sponsorship requirements. This also gives you spin and accuracy level 4.

When you total all the attributes up, you get:

Power: 4 = 10% bonus
Accuracy: 4 = 10% bonus
Ball strinking: 3 = 6% bonus
Approach: 3 = 6% bonus
Spin: 5 = 10% bonus
Putting: 2 = 3% bonus
Recovery: 4 = 10% bonus
Luck: 5 = 10% bonus

How do do specifically earn points. I can’t even get in the top 20 in the Tournaments.

  2. NoChinDeluxeon 28 Apr 2009 at 9:47 pm link comment

Hi Terry. As you are playing through the PGA Tour Season, you’ll earn stat points for making certain shots. So for instance, every time your drive lands on the fairway, you’ll earn some Accuracy stat points. When you hit the green on your approach, you’ll earn stats toward Ball Striking. When you make putts, you’ll earn Putting stats, etc., etc. So as you make better and better shots, you’ll earn more and more stats. You’ll also earn general experience points which can be spent on any category to give yourself a boost in that area. You can see when you earn a stat point during your game, because the little icon representing the category will flash on the screen letting you know you just earned stats in that area. So keep practicing and playing events, and you’ll eventually max out your stats. You can then augment those stats with bonuses earned from the gear you choose. Glen’s list above will get you a ton of extra bonuses.

Hey what do the levels do? i don’t see a difference in wearing level 1 stuff and level 4 stuff. does it give you a better precentage bonus or would that make to much sence?

  4. NoChinDeluxeon 01 Jun 2009 at 6:29 am link comment

Higher level items generally perform better and give you a greater percentage bonus. So your level 4 driver should give you more distance than a level 1. That’s why you have to unlock level 4 items and pay lots of money for them.

wats the fastest way to max out my attributes?

  6. NoChinDeluxeon 11 Jun 2009 at 8:42 pm link comment

My recommended method is to play through the Tiger Challenge (for ’09) or the Tournament Challenge (for TW10) first completely, then play through the PGA Season, then the FedEx cup. Ideally you should be maxed before you finish all that, but you have to keep making good shots! To make the process go more quickly, turn on All-Play. That way, you’ll see the exact line for every shot and you’ll never miss. But be warned, don’t play through the entire game on All-Play and expect to be competitive when playing online. You need to make sure and balance yourself so you learn how to play the game properly.

Hello while playing the game i have noticed that many of the players have the Titleist Pro v1 items..yet we get none of those items for our own golfer..If anyone can explain that to me it would be great..Thanks.

    P.S.
(Titleist) Pro V1 is my favorite brand..

  8. NoChinDeluxeon 13 Jul 2009 at 7:18 am link comment

The Titleist brand is not available in the game. This is most likely due to Titleist declining participation in the game. I’m not sure how you are able to tell what balls the other players are using…

  9. Pro V1on 13 Jul 2009 at 9:59 am link comment

Some of the players you face have Titleist hats..and if you look carefully when they putt.you can see the ball (somewhat)..But thankyou for answering..I love the site. also in TW10 I have about $1,000,000 and all atributes 100% and i have only played 100% Tournament Challenges..50% fedex cup and 38% PGA..And i must ask..when do you get the Addidas Sponsorship and the Nike TW.sponsorship..I am looking forward to those..
    Thankyou..

  10. NoChinDeluxeon 13 Jul 2009 at 11:07 am link comment

Oh…well there are no Titleist items in the shop, so you can’t use them. As for the sponsorships, Adidas was the first one I got, so I’m not sure why you don’t have it yet. The Nike one doesn’t come until way down the line when you are a superstar. You’ll get that one near the end of the game. You may not have the Adidas one yet because you haven’t completed your PGA Tour objectives yet. Check on those to see how you’re doing.

Hi! Quick question, how do I gain spin attribute points effectively? I know we want to hit good shots go gain better/more points…but so far, I haven’t got a single point for the spin attribute… granted I’m only at 4% or something (TW10, on wii). Help? Thanks

  13. NoChinDeluxeon 23 Jul 2009 at 8:09 am link comment

To gain spin stats, you just need to use spin! That’s it. So every time you drive, add forward spin. That’s step one. Also try and use some spin on your approach shots as well.

  14. JWon 23 Jul 2009 at 6:08 pm link comment

Thanks! but… ok, I may seem like a dumba**…but how do i add spin…? do i adjust the club head back in that little circle thing, showing the lie of the ball?

  15. Joshon 23 Jul 2009 at 9:45 pm link comment

To add spin use the dpad to give the spin direction and then shake the controller. You can change directions of the spin as long as it’s in flight but you cannot reduce the speed of the spin. For all fairway shots use some sort of spin, even if it’s the slightest back spin or top spin imaginable. This way you don’t have to use any general points at all on the spin.

Another attribute tip is to use the putt preview on putts. Don’t get accustomed to it, just use it to help max out putting faster. The quickest way to max out is to not waste general points. Any time you have enough putt points, spin points, power points to upgrade without wasting generals do it. In the end you should have so many general points saved that you can finish maxing the rest out. I’ll play custom courses with the easiest pins, fastest fairways, best weather condition possible to speed this up also.

  16. Joshon 23 Jul 2009 at 9:45 pm link comment

Also if you’re strapped for cash go do the target practice and rake it in quickly.

  17. JWon 25 Jul 2009 at 1:57 am link comment

    sweet~ thanks guys!

  18. NoChinDeluxeon 25 Jul 2009 at 2:10 pm link comment

Thanks for the advice, Josh. JW, you can literally pick a direction on the d-pad and just shake the remote once to activate spin. It won’t add any spin, but you’ll still get the stats points.

Curious. I’m a rather new player (two weeks). Got a few endorsements, played in several challenges and amassed about $120,000 in my earnings. On my skill points, I’m over 60% on all of them, some even more.

I went to the proshop and bought the most expensive irons and woods (the EA Diamond). I noticed you didn’t mention these. Did I just toss away $60,000? Are these not as good as the options you’ve outlined?

Again – just curious. I assumed more money, more skill.

  20. NoChinDeluxeon 05 Aug 2009 at 1:17 pm link comment

The actual equipment you use means nothing, only the stat bonuses they provide. So no, the EA Diamond series will do nothing for your game or distance or accuracy or anything. All it does is provided the stat bonuses that comes with it. So yes, you did waste that money. ;)

  21. JWon 17 Aug 2009 at 10:48 pm link comment

hi guys~ i was wondering… on the tournaments.. if i have something set up all wrong. i can be playing the round of my life, but still end up 2nd. ie: i’ll shoot like… -17 the first day to take the lead by like 5 strokes, but come the 2nd day, everyone else is at maybe -25. i play another fantastic round, to take the lead, then 3rd day, everyone else is at like -40. by the end of the 4th day, i’d be doing sudden death w/ els or whoever, at -64…. now… i could be wrong, but that’s just ridiculous…. is it just how the game is? or is there some sort of screwup in my settings…. o_O

  22. NoChinDeluxeon 18 Aug 2009 at 7:18 am link comment

This is a feature built into the game. The scores of your opponents are dynamically altered to your performance. So the better you shoot, the better they shoot. This makes it so you can’t just run away with every tournament. It makes it more of a challenge (and more fun in my opinion).

  23. JWon 18 Aug 2009 at 9:40 am link comment

oh~ yeah i guess that’s true. yet, it gets a bit ridiculous sometimes. almost near impossible scores. i mean… the computer players would start acing the par3s and always eagle the par 5s… o_O sudden death playoff, i birdie, and still lost… *sigh*

How do you buy a swing?

  25. NoChinDeluxeon 04 Sep 2009 at 7:01 am link comment

From your career menu, go to “My Golfer,” then to “My Animations,” then to “Pick a Swing.” From there you’ll be able to pick a swing that will give you power bonuses, etc. Some of the better ones cost money and require a certain career status, however, so be aware.

I’m a new player (2weeks), put the game in and started playing. Created my character, but set it up for only one round per tournment…then I found your website. I wished I had read first! I want to restart from scratch, is it possible to erase and begin again? If so I haven’t figured that out yet!

  41. NoChinDeluxeon 27 Mar 2010 at 11:28 am link comment

You can’t erase your profile once you create it. If you want to completely erase your TW data from your Wii and start over, you can go into your Wii settings and into data management, and erase your TW files. That will clear your game of any data and you can start completely over. But keep in mind that this erases ALL TW data. So if someone else has a profile on your system, you might want to check with them first to make sure it’s all right.

  42. JJRamonon 28 Mar 2010 at 6:03 pm link comment

Thanks, that is exactly what I wanted to! I only had one profile, so no harm when I deleted the data. Now I’m reading all the great advice and hints on your site BEFORE I start building my profile and playing.

how do you Increase your online level, completed the game to %96 won a lot of online games but my level still says 1??? please help so stuck?

  44. NoChinDeluxeon 29 Mar 2010 at 7:46 pm link comment

Your online level has nothing to do with your offline stuff. Just keep winning games online to increase your level. Every time you lose a match you lose ranking points, and you have to make those up before advancing. So the key is to keep winning and to not lose a lot. Otherwise you have to make up everything you lost first before you can start gaining positive ranking points.

Hi No chin just wondering how we unlock items in the pro shop ie. level 4. I am phenom status.

  46. NoChinDeluxeon 12 Apr 2010 at 5:38 am link comment

Many of the top items in the pro shop need to be unlocked by gaining a sponsorship from the brand who produces the item. So to get the best TaylorMade drivers, you’ll need a TaylorMade sponsorship. Sponsorships are awarded in random order based on your level of completion of the game. Phenom status is still one of the earlier levels, so you’ll unlock more sponsorships as you keep playing career mode and winning tournaments. Remember, you can always select a locked item to bring up a screen that tells you what you need to accomplish to unlock the item.

  47. Gp46on 12 Apr 2010 at 4:37 pm link comment

Many Thanks No Chin, you have been a great help in me improving my TW game

  48. Gp46on 15 Apr 2010 at 4:22 pm link comment

Hi Nochin, do passwords enable us to get sponsorship for some items in the proshop. I have entered passwords such as el tigre, tempertemper etc that I had sourced on various forums but they dont seem to work. is playing and winning the only way to get these sponsorships.
For example how would we get easports sponsorship. when we click on a locked item it just says you need that particular sponsorship for that item but does not say hopw to accomplish that.
    Again Many thanks NoChin

  49. NoChinDeluxeon 15 Apr 2010 at 5:53 pm link comment

I don’t think there are any passwords for TW10. Sponsorships are earned by playing through career mode. As you finish certain accomplishments, like winning a certain number of majors, etc., your career progress will change, from amateur to phenom to champion, etc. As you hit those milestones, sponsorships will be released to you in random order. So you may get the EA sponsorship early on or late in the game.

@sacred Keep in mind this guide is for the 2009 game. So if you are playing TW10 or TW11, you’ll want to check out those articles instead. With that being said, you can’t get 110% in all your stats. But this guide shows you how to get the maximum allowed, which is 110% on 5 of the 8 attributes, and partial bonuses on the rest.
