Using Fade and Draw to Attack Difficult Par 3′s

In my last post on creating custom courses, I talked about a few par 3′s that constantly give me trouble. These holes were Pebble Beach #12, Pebble Beach #17, and Doral #15. There are certainly other par 3′s within the game that are just as difficult, if not worse, but these three holes have some features that are in common. All three feature a green that is very shallow, but also very wide. This isn’t the worst thing if you’re playing from a close tee and with average or slow greens or easy pin placement. But when playing from black tees with expert pin placement and fast greens, you might as well write down a 3 on your scorecard before you even tee off. But before we give up all hope, let’s take a look at some ways we can maximize our chances of landing close to the pin on the first shot. Continue Reading »

Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 10 Bundled with the Wii MotionPlus!

EA Sports announced today that Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 will be bundled with the new Wii MotionPlus peripheral. The US price is set at $59.99 for both the game and the hardware. I’m not sure what this means for those of us who have already pre-ordered the game and the MotionPlus separately. This should attract many more players to the new Tiger Woods PGA Tour game as they can now get a discount on the MotionPlus!

Practice Makes Perfect: How to Create Your Own Custom Course to Practice Those Difficult Holes

If you are like me, you probably have a few holes that seem to get the best of you every time out. For me, there are a couple of par 3 holes that always give me a run for my money. Pebble Beach #12 and #17 are both difficult par 3′s that are tough to master, especially from the black tees. Add in fast greens and you’ve got a real challenge ahead of you. Hole #15 on Doral can also be a tricky par 3 to tackle. But it’s important to realize that other players are most likely struggling with these holes as well. This means that if you can master these difficult holes (or others that are plaguing you personally), and you can consistently birdie them, you’ve given yourself a nice advantage over the opponent who is likely to make par, and this extra stroke could give you that extra step for the win! Release Date and Price Announced for MotionPlus!

According to this article on IGN, Nintendo has set a release date and price for the MotionPlus peripheral for the Nintendo Wii. It will be released in the United States on June 8th, and will be $19.99 USD. This of course means we’ll have it in time for the release of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2010! I think most of us are letting out a huge sigh of relief for that one. I had wondered what would happen if the community would be forced to play with the standard controls, only to switch to MotionPlus a few months later. This will obviously be much more ideal.

Gear Your Character Should Use to Gain Maximum Stat Bonuses

Here is a re-post of glenmcd2′s list of gear for gaining the maximum bonuses for your stats. This list was originally posted by glenmcd2 on the EA Forums, and you can find the link on the Useful Links Page, but I thought I’d post the whole thing here as well so that it was easier to find. A huge thanks to glenmcd2 for taking the time to figure this stuff out and for sharing it with the rest of us! Continue Reading »

Swapping Out Clubs

A good way to take your game to the next level is to bring the right equipment with you when you play. Depending on how you have your clubs tuned and your particular playing style, you may want to add and remove various clubs that you need or don’t need. For me, the 5 wood was the first to go. It just seemed like a useless club that I rarely used, and when I did use it, I didn’t like the result. My main issues with the 5 wood were that it had too much roll, not enough loft, and it was difficult to hit consistently at partial power percentages. So I swapped it out for a 1 iron. The 1 iron is much easier to hit at various power percentages, and I can get a little more loft and spin with it. Other players like to add extra wedges so they have more options when approaching the green. The choice is yours and you may want to experiment with different club combinations to find the right fit for your game. Continue Reading »

List of Players Available in Tiger Woods PGA Tour ’09

This was asked on the FAQ page, but since there are so many, instead of listing them in a comment, I decided to give them their own page. For those only interested in the pros, they are listed first in alphabetical order, down to Henrietta Zuel.

Get ready, there’s a lot… Continue Reading »

How to Make a Chip Shot

One of the most confusing shots for newer players is the chip shot. It’s not quite a pitch, but not quite a putt. So what is it? Why should you ever use it? Why does it never behave the way you think it will!? In this article I hope to clear up some of the mystery of the chip shot and help you add it to your arsenal as one of your valuable plays.
